Hurricane-Affected Metros See a (Likely Temporary) Hiring Slowdown

Leisure/Hospitality Sector Especially Affected

Hurricanes Harvey and Irma affected the job market in Texas and Florida in September. However, the Leisure/Hospitality sector, which suffered reduced job gains because of the hurricanes, rebounded in October.

A new RealPage report noted that Florida job gains in the 12 months ending in September were only about one-third of the August annual total. Cape Coral-Fort Myers lost the highest percentage of jobs.
